What is a beatbox battle?

A beatbox battle is a duel where the instrument is the mouth: two beatboxers face off and, with sounds alone, try to outdo each other. No backing tracks, no effects: lips, tongue and throat. And someone decides who hit harder, live.

What a beatbox battle is

Beatbox is the art of imitating drums, bass, scratches and melodies using only your mouth. Taken to battle, it's a 1v1: each beatboxer gets their turn to drop their best set and answer the other's.

From the subway and the plaza it jumped to world championships (the Grand Beatbox Battle). But the duel format is still the same: two mouths, a face-off and a crowd reacting to every drop.

How a battle works: rounds and formats

The classic format is alternating rounds of ~45-90 seconds. There's solo (1v1), tag team (2v2) and loopstation (with a pedal to record live layers). Anything from the mouth counts; pre-recorded tracks don't.

Each round hunts for a peak: an impossible pattern, a sharp switch, a bass that rumbles. Ground is won by whoever has more technique, originality and musicality —and who makes the crowd erupt.

Who decides who wins

At championships a panel of beatboxer judges scores technique, originality and presence. But in the room the ruler is always the same: whoever lifts the crowd most.

With Roundr, that reaction counts. The crowd votes live from their phones on who won each round, the score shows on screen, and you don't need a closed jury: the audience decides.

Beatbox vs. freestyle, dance and aura

In freestyle the word rules; in street dance, the body; in aura farming, presence. In beatbox, sound rules: you're the DJ, the drums and the bass at once, with no tool but your mouth.

It shares the mechanic with the others —head-to-head, by rounds, crowd deciding— but rewards the ear: musicality, technique and surprise.

How to run your own beatbox battle

You don't need a championship or a sound system. With Roundr you build the bracket, drop a QR and the crowd votes from their phones, live. Solo, tag team or loopstation: you pick the format.

Every beatboxer claims their @tag and racks up points, wins and aura on the scene's ranking. Set the battle; the crowd decides.
